Simyone Lounge
The latest nightlife venture from EMM Group’s Eugene Remm, Mark Birnbaum and Michael Hirtenstein, SL is a modern-day ultra-lounge where elements of New York’s glamorous, spirited nightlife scene will be highlighted anew. Named in honor of Remm’s grandfather, SL will combine sleek and stylish decor with heartfelt, traditional hospitality for a unique nightlife experience. Located at 409 West 14th Street, SL is a 2,200-square-foot boutique nightclub, whose two-part interior is thoughtfully designed to pay homage to the rich historical foundation on which it rests.
Avenue
Avenue, a $2.5 million “gastro lounge” as owner, Noah Tepperberg, has coined it, is the definition of an “it” place in New York City. The concept combines a bar/lounge with moving lights, a lot of seating and some eating. There is a DJ booth, but no dance floor, making conversation an integral part of the experience.
1Oak Nightclub
The Patrick-McMullan photographed crowd flock to this Chelsea lounge, from power players Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano—both of Butter—to Jeffrey Jah, mastermind behind Lotus. If you make it past the tough door, you’re almost sure to spot a celeb or two sipping Dom Perignon from one of the few, coveted tables. As one the city’s glittering clubs du jour, 1OAK is stuffed to the gills with models, fashionistas, and bespoke bankers. If you, mere mortal, do make your way into the expansive room beneath the raw, oak-lined ceiling, don’t forget to make your way down to the pimped-out bathrooms—the pitch-black individual stalls feature gold basins and an oversized image of a gold gun on the wall.
Nikki Midtown
Amidst of the bustle of Midtown Manhattan is Nikki Midtown, a tropical oasis of plush white linens, elegant décor, world-renowned djs, live entertainment, and handcrafted signature cocktails that transports diners and guests to the heart of the tropics 365 days of the year. The venue, with its soaring ceilings and stunning visuals has become a staple of the New York City nightlife scene and is the ultimate destination where New York City’s top tastemakers, trendsetters, fashionistas, and top executives all converge.
With a unique menu that blends the bold flavors of the Mediterranean with fresh Asian elements and options, the menu at Nikki Midtown presents an eclectic array of delicious fare- all served with stunning presentations and in one of the city’s most vibrant and beautiful venues. From their complimentary tapas served during the venue’s see-and-be-seen happy hour, to the dinner menu which features global influences and serves the freshest of ingredients, the fare at Nikki Midtown is a culinary feast for all five senses. Immersed in the décor and entertainment of Nikki Midtown, guests may dine on the famous Nikki salad- featuring aged Stilton bleu cheese, candied walnuts, fresh seasonal mandarins and pears, and homemade champagne-vanilla vinaigrette.
Diners may be transported to Asia or the Mediterranean with Nikki’s Moroccan Style Lamb, served with cous cous pilaf and cumin scented lab jus or with one of Nikki’s homemade sushi rolls. After dinner service, the venue turns into a glittering nightclub and diner may dance until 4:00am with the city’s most sought-after djs, dancing, VIP bottle service entertainment, and New York’s hottest crowd.
Greenhouse
John B, the man behind West Chelsea staples Home and Guest House, went green for his third venture, Greenhouse. The spot has club-goers sitting on couches made from recyclable material all under LED lighting. Add to that toilets that flush efficiently, waterless urinals, table service that comes with fresh juices and offers 360 Vodka in eusable bottle, and you got yourself an LEED-approved nightclub experience. Of course the eco-feel continues in the décor, which features walls made of sustainable bamboo and covered in real leaves, moss, and green circles, along with glass beads hung from the ceiling to evoke, we assume, raindrops (Rainforest Café, anyone?). Given its relatively small space the club promotes some skin-to-skin action, and the music will satisfy those with a penchant for the expected mix of Top 40, house, and hip-hop.
Rivington Hotel and Lounge
The Hotel on Rivington’s uber-secret, VIP lounge. But just because its secret, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check it out – or at least, try to. Thor is just one more swank reason the Lower East Side draws a super chic crowd.
Covet
The moment you become involved in New York City nightlife you realize that extravagant venues are nowhere near endangered here. Whether they’re large or small, the city is simply choking with velvet ropes, glittering staircases, lush décor, vibrant lighting. While each destination has its own vibe, time passes and you start to feel like you have déjà vu – and not because of too many cocktails. Enter Covet, one of Manhattan’s newest lounges, that sheds a whole new light on nightlife.
Juliet Supper Club
Juliet Supper Club – Menu by Todd English (Libertine) and design by Antonio di Oronzo (Greenhouse, GuestHouse) in former Opera space destined to be next sceney scenster restaurant destination in Chelsea. As of now, Juliet’s the girl of the moment.
Marquee
Marquee – An exercise in guestlist social pecking order from “Page Six” regulars Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss, Marquee is more architecturally stylish than a watering hole needs to be. The dark wood and glass chandeliers take a bit of the bite out of the pricey drinks, not that the moneyed clientele seems to mind — they’re just happy they managed to brag their way in. Mojitos and margaritas are the cocktails of choice, and LA types and celebrities are usually well represented in the see-and-be-seen crowd. Follow the stairs in the back of the room and you’ll come to the second-floor lounge – a surprisingly soundproof glass box that overlooks the upscale revelry on the main floor. If you’re not on the list, or especially good at namedropping, make sure you have a backup bar in mind.
Cielo
Cielo – From its state-of-the-art space in downtown’s ultra-chic Meatpacking District, Cielo provides a music program specializing in deeply soulful house music as well as various genres of electronic music. Cielo is a haven for mature individuals seeking intelligent nightlife with neither the hassles of large clubs nor the elitism of upscale lounges with too many VIP rooms. Once you are in Cielo, there will be no more ropes, checkpoints, or rules. Security’s goal is to compliment the experience, not to hinder it. Cielo has set a new level in New York nightlife by going back to basics: the best DJs on the planet, a strong door, impeccable service, stunning decor and lighting, and a sound system which will blow the most fastidious audiophile’s socks off.
