Tripod

POD first opened in 1993 in the vaults of the old historic Railway Station on Harcourt St. Sweeping the boards at many International Awards that year, the cutting edge design juxtaposed the preserved stark grey stone walls of the vaults with colourful soft furnishings and shimmering candlelight.

The opening of POD coincided with the arrival of club culture in Dublin. At the forefront of garage and house music in Dublin, the dance floor has heaved to all the great house DJ’s including Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Frankie Knuckles, Marshall Jefferson, Grandmaster Flash and Boy George to name but a few.

POD has had several makeovers since those heady days, periodically transforming its face and its rhythm to suit the changing times. Its latest incarnation was designed by renowned Austrialian architect and designer Andy Martin.

DTwo Nightclub

DTwo is conveniently located on the beautiful Georgian area of Harcourt Street. Comprised of a sophisticated modern and stylish bar proving very popular with the after work crowd. Dtwo boasts one of the most popular beer gardens in Dublin and is complimented by very busy nightclub – an extremely popular choice for any event or party.

The Front Lounge

One of the original new Dub pubs, the Lounge is as slick as they come, although it may be losing its uber-cool mantle to the Morrison. Inside, it’s a posers shoot-out to the death: gentlemen in designer suits, ties and stubble; gentlewomen on chaise longues staring at the fountains. It’s as cool as a penguin’s bum, but there’s still enough of a vibe for you to relax with an Irish and coke. Just don’t go in dungarees.

Traffic

The latest in Dublin’s Urban Lounge scene, Traffic claims to be “intentionally under-designed” although it looked pretty designer-swank to us. From the chandeliers and sumptuous white leather seats of the main bar, to the siren-red hues of the downstairs club, it wouldn’t look out of place in chicest Paris. Traffic Jam is a student-heavy Thursday night in the downstairs club, but get off that crowded back-road and stick to the smooth-running A-Lane highway upstairs, where sophisticated older regulars take stools at the cosy walnut bar counter and pick from dozens of classic and eclectic cocktail creations, our favourite being a Jameson whiskey sour.
